homeschooling?
To start with we can cook and so learn about the different ingredients and where they come from, measuring, healthy habits vs unhealthy and of course the art of cooking.
We can give him a strip of field and get him to cultivate a few flowers and veggies. That will teach about the seasons and their importance, the best time to cultivate what and when, the beauty of nature and how it keeps us alive and so on.
We will visit all the cultural heritage in Malta & Gozo and learn about our history and how it relates to the european history and the rest of the world. And it also teaches that preserving such is important!
We can take him to plays and concerts and art exhibitions to get him into the arts.
We can dance and sing together like crazy and learn about rythm and how dancing and singing keeps us happy and carefree.
Oh there is so much one can learn from home that isn't given as much importance at school over here or is not taught in a fun way.....I am excited at this prospect and no matter how happy I am in living with my toddler, I am so looking forward to teach him all this when he gets older.
For now, I am happy to do basic stuff like learning abc, 123, drawing and yes helping me cook but this still has to wait another 5-6 months :) We will take the world by storm with the many ideas and I hope he will be as enthusiastic as I am.
Have you ever thought of homeschooling what are your ideas about it?

Personally I dont think I could homeschool my future children. I do like the idea of the social skills that can only be learned away from the family nest and also I trust that teachers have my patience than I do :) I think your ideas for home schooling are fantastic!

I would LOVE to homeschool all the children but I am enjoying the time Grant has at school with friends learning to interact socially and emotionally. I think both are so important, homeschooling and traditional school institutions.
I miss you my friend...I had no internet and now I do and I can come visit. You can hear the happiness in your tone. I love it. xoxo - March 10, 2010 at 4:14 AM

While I don't currently home educate (nor to I intend to when my boys are of school age) I have several friends that do and they their children are thriving with it.
I've found that our days are FILLED to the brim with learning opportunities - many that you mentioned - and I try to take advantage of those as I see them. My 4 y/o learned his ABC's, counting, colors, and several shapes before even stepping foot into his current preschool that he started this year. I didn't have that goal per se, but he's just a little sponge!
This year, he's memorized his address and we're working on a phone number as he's learning about cities/states when we've traveled.
Even if you don't fully educate at home, there are SO many opportunities to learn together that results in a stronger parent-child bond and will only enhance anything they learn in the classroom. I'm sure you're little guy will LOVE all that you have to teach him! - March 10, 2010 at 8:05 PM

This is precisely what my Life is Therapy series is about. There are so many learning oppurtunities in everyday life. We do not have to manufacture artificial circumstances for learning. Children learn quite well through their everyday doings.
