Play dough and fire works

And so we started our Summer journey of learning while having fun.

Yesterday, we did play dough and straight away the kids started making shapes, cutting cookies and creating things (especially Greg).  I forgot to take pics while doing the dough, but the kids were learning how to measure in a cup!

Today we did fireworks :)  The first was enjoyed by both kids the second by Maya - Greg is not a fan of sensory play especially when the going gets sticky!

We got a black paper and some white chalk.  Here I did firework style lines across the paper.  Next the kids dipped the brush in craft glue and put the glue where the chalk was.  Lastly we got some glitters and spread them over the glue and voila!

The last activity we used shaving foam in a plastic tub than I got some paint colours and let them to design their fireworks all over the foam.

Summer homeschooling

And Gregory finishes school tomorrow and I have lined up a pretty amazing Summer (in my mind) and frankly can't wait to see if it will live up to expectations!

I thought of sharing a bit how our mornings will look like(as the bulk of activities will happen then) and if any of you Maltese people wish to join and have a community of adults & children laughing and learning together please feel free to let me know it would be awesome to spend time with you!

Mon & Tues the kids will be enjoying their grandparents while I can do some private work
Wed we will start with yoga, find letters, draw, stick, cut and play ball among others and of course an hour at the sea followed by cooking lunch together, eating , cleaning up and settle down for a story before napping.
Thurs we will start with yoga and do an activity like building a boat or doing a picture frame, we will also go to the sea for an hour and again cook lunch together and after eating and cleaning up settle down to listen to a story before having a pleasant nap!
Fri we will alternate between library and a mystery outing
Sat will be cleaning the house day followed by more cooking and experiments
Sun its family day at the museums :)

Any other ideas and tips? what are you planning?

My Summery challenge

So you know by now I tend to get angry at my kids (like any other mum) but if I loose it I tend to shout like a demented!

This Summer starting as of today (as I had forgotten my own challenge!) I decided to challenge myself not to shout or even hit (yes you read right- I sometimes do it sorry) my kids and of course if I manage to keep it up for at least most of Summer than that means I am capable of doing it all year right?

Truth is I know I am capable of it but fickle me tend to let her emotions by pass all rationale.  So this is it- I am aware of my downfall, I am aware when I am going to the place of no return and now I decided that I will simply not accept this behaviour anymore.

Its a fun challenge really because I know I growing more into the person I want my children to know and imitate and its liberating knowing I did a deadline to myself on my behaviour.

There is still 1 hour till bedtime but so far today I managed to keep my own deal and I am proud of this first day :)

Beach time

The kids have pinning to go to the beach for ages even though the weather this year kept teasing us.  Today we finally made it and had a ball playing on the sand.  I did take a dip in the sea and while I loved it, it was still very much cold!

On the way to 10 years of married life

Soon after I got married 7 years ago, I used to say that we'd take a second honeymoon to Kenya for our 10th anniversary and leaving any kids we had behind with babysitters.

Somehow, hearing the kids playing all this came to mind and with it the certainty that I will be doing neither of the above.  I actually smile at my naivete of the time- how things change!

For our actual anniversary I really have nothing planned and just now the mere thought of it comes up with maybe a weekend break or just dinner.  However on that same year our oldest will be having his First Holy Communion and for that I am planning a big family holiday.
